Pentagon: Not less than two US Marines in urinating video identified


Marine Corps official confirmed the news to the BBC immediately after the US defence secretary Leon Panetta described the scenes inside the video as 'utterly deplorable'.

Reacting towards the controversial video, Mr Panetta stated: 'I have witnessed the footage, and I discover the behavior depicted in it utterly deplorable. People discovered to possess engaged in such conduct will likely be held accountable for the fullest extent.'

The US defence secretary confirmed he had ordered the Marine Corps and the commander and US and Nato troops in Afghanistan to investigate the incident.

The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan also released a statement earlier stating: ‘A video a short while ago posted on a public site seems to show US military personnel committing an inappropriate act with enemy corpses. This disrespectful act is inexplicable and not in keeping with the substantial moral specifications we expect of coalition forces.


‘ISAF strongly condemns the actions depicted in the video, which seem to have been carried out by a compact group of US folks, who apparently are no lengthier serving in Afghanistan.’

Earlier, a statement from Afghan president Hamid Karzai described the act as 'completely inhumane' and termed on the United states military to punish the Marines.

The Marine Corps stated it had not but verified the authenticity with the YouTube video and additional the actions portrayed were not consistent using the values of your Marines.

In the event the video is verified it could provoke a backlash in the Muslim planet and beyond for the shocking actions it reveals.

In a public statement, Panetta said such behaviour is “entirely inappropriate for members of the United States military” and that those responsible will be held accountable.
Officials said they had not yet verified the video’s origin or authenticity, but had no evidence to doubt what it was.
